still . .

Is doing nothing
being no thing?

Well, a while back, I would have said, no, 'doing nothing' is being a 'thing' only. And that would be a regression.

But there is outer and inner within the 'thing'. Outer nothing, inner something, then there is the viceversa which most prefer, but perhaps wrongly.

I guess I will have to think about it some more.

Being without being, is still being, and being moves and haves life, hence in meditation there is a shift from the outer movements to the inner movements, for awareness. Cessation of the whole is death. There seems to be no way to do nothing.

I agree with Jim. There seems to be no way to do nothing.
But assuming we are not the human body, which is always active even when it is sleeping, when we, as the intelligence, mind or ego, don't do nothing by way of thinking, feeling, sensing, acting or just observing, then we become no thing. But the mind is not separate from the brain and body and the universe that supports it.
I agree with the Japanese. Mind and matter are indivisibly one. The mind is the mental brain; the brain is the physical mind.
